Katie Bernard’s Bio
Hey I’m Katie Bernard and here’s a little inside on who I ‘am.
The Early Years
I was born and raised in Canada and grew up in Ottawa Ontario. My Mom, Dad, sister and I are a very close family and I have my sister Amy to thank for introducing me to my passion, singing. We grew up listening to everything from Salt & Pepper, Celine Dion, to Reba McEntire. We definitely loved (and still love) listening to various types of music. I sang all the time when I was little, but it wasn’t until I was 8 years old that I really fell in love with it and knew that it was what I wanted to do for a living.
Performing Arts School
I remember asking my parents for a phone book one day and looking under the letter “P” for Performing Arts because I wanted to take professional vocal lessons. With the vocal lessons came dance and acting lessons and I wanted to do it all! Lucky for me, my parents enrolled me into one of the best Performing Art Schools in Ottawa. I basically lived there. I was taking four classes a week and loving every minute of it. It was my home away from home. My teachers were like my best friends. I stayed there for eight years and accomplished a lot.
The Love to Entertain
I did hundreds of singing competitions. I was performing at shows every other week, singing national anthems for major sporting events, and recording in the studio. I would perform everywhere and anywhere as long as I had an audience to perform it front of. The fans were always the only thing that mattered.
The Independent Years
At 13 I received a record deal from an independent label in Canada and got a good taste of the music business. Unfortunately, two years into my contract the label folded. But all in all, it was an amazing experience. From there I continued to sing locally in Ottawa and record in the studio. But I was ready for a change.
Ready for a Change in the US
I decided to move to Orlando FL to further my singing. After doing many auditions I landed some work with Disney Studios. Disney was awesome, yet, it still wasn’t for me.
Then came American Idol… After many friends and family members convincing me that there’s no harm in trying out, I finally decided to give it a shot. I was very lucky and made it to the top 40 of American Idol’s season 6. The experience was life changing. However, the best part of the American Idol process was the amazing friends I made along the way. The experience was made that much more significant by all the people that it brought into my life.
Where Dreams Come True
With all of my experience with singing, I decided to take a big step and move to the city where dreams come true: Los Angeles. I’m currently working with a great producer & songwriter and things couldn’t be any better. We’re almost done with our 5 song EP and I can’t wait to share it with you all.
Huge American Idol Crowds Head To San Francisco For Audition
Fox TV’s “American Idol” has a shortage of judges at the moment, but it’s doing fine with would-be contestants.
Nearly 50,000 people have turned out in the first four cities where tryouts have been held, according to series producers. Auditions for the singing contest’s 10th season started July 15 in Nashville.
The crowds of 16,000 in Nashville and 17,000 in East Rutherford, N.J., are among the biggest the show has ever seen – eclipsed only by the 22,000 that auditioned in Washington, D.C., for season four, a show spokeswoman said. Auditions will conclude at San Francisco’s AT&T Park on Aug. 19.
Earlier this year, “American Idol” expanded the pool by lowering the age eligibility a year, from 16 to 15 years old. The maximum age to audition remains 28.
A ‘historic’ season
Host Ryan Seacrest suggested another reason for the enthusiasm.
“I think people are sensing that season 10 is a historic moment, and they all want to take a shot at being the 10th American Idol,” Seacrest said at the New Jersey audition earlier this week.
The auditions continue in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday before the San Francisco finale.

Hundreds tired out for our 2009 Orlando Idol auditions, but in the end there could only be one winner. After belting out “I’m every woman” first recorded by legendary singer Chaka Khan and later songstress Whitney Houston she was named one of our two winners to walk away with a chance to debut her talents on Fox’s hit show American idol.
